Job Description
We are seeking Construction Codes Officials to assist municipalities, builders and architects in South Central Pennsylvania in understanding, navigating and applying the building codes and inspections process, enabling them to build safe, sturdy buildings while streamlining compliance and approval.
While we are generally seeking experienced/fully certified codes officials, if you have trades and construction experience with a strong interest in becoming a certified codes official, we welcome you to apply as well.
Responsibilities
- Review plans and specifications for PA-UCC compliance
- Conduct PA-UCC required inspections at various commercial and residential properties
- Provide technical information to owners and contractors and assist with compliance to ICC and the PA-UCC.
- Maintain records and logs of work performed and actions taken
- Respond to emails and answer and return phone calls promptly
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff, municipality officials, contractors, owners and the general public
- Maintain current PA-UCC certification
- Prepare for additional ICC certification exams as needed and as directed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Qualifications can vary from entry level to experienced and fully certified but below is a list of some of the key qualifications.
- High school diploma or equivalent required and college degree preferred
- 3+ years experience working in building codes or related is preferred
- Experience in construction trades
- Be willing and capable of maintaining the minimum continuing education requirements for at least six (6) ICC commercial code certifications is required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and Outlook is required
- Self-motivated and ability to work independently with minimal supervision, ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
- Strong problem solving abilities and able to digest and carry out complex verbal/written instructions
- Strong work ethic with high personal standards for quality of work
- Team player with a positive attitude who is considerate and able to work well with others including colleagues, municipality officials, contractors, owners and the general public
- Highly organized and strong time management skills and with the ability to meet deadlines
- Enjoy studying and utilizing technical information
- Must be able to pass drug test
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license with clean driving record and reliable transportation
- Must possess the physical condition necessary to carry out the duties of the position
